Week 1 Natural Health Award Spring/summer

This week’s challenge happened to land on the week of Pancake day and so we decided to incorporate a pancake picture hunt among the trees and bushes at the library. Great fun and got us out and about looking for ingredients and things connected to pancake day. I used pancake day display pictures from Twinkl.co.uk

Song Time: For our Bookbug session we all enjoyed some pancake related songs. Favourites at the moment include “Pop a little pancake into the pan” , “wind the bobbin” and “sleeping little bunnies”.

Story Time: Top story of the week with my childminding children has been “Mr Wolfs pancakes” by Jan Fearnley. My 3 and 4 year olds loved the humour and cheeky wee twist in the book. Would highly recommend.

All about Natural health award

This is an amazing award which was originally created in lockdown by NHS in Forth Valley along with the Scottish childminding association (SCMA). At the heart of the award is the Five Ways to well-being: Give, Take Notice, Keep learning and Be active. Altogether there are 15 activities. The aim of the award is to encourage outdoor activity, increase time spent in nature, promote physical activity, improve mental well-being and foster resilience.

As a childminder in Glasgow I’ve seen the many benefits of outdoor play and learning from nature on a daily basis. I completed the award with the childminding children in Autumn/Winter 2022 and am currently completing it again with my local library tots group for the Spring/Summer session. We have the absolute privilege of being able to take the children to a local Day care centre for adults with Dementia which has been such a special time.
